Backpack Community’s social network provides most of the same functionality that is available through applications, such as Facebook and Google+, but it is much more secure. The “family management” functionality gives parents the ability to set permissions for family access. Parents have access to more information about their children and are able to network with other parents. Clubs and Teams allow for online collaboration, fundraising, and merchandise sales.
All uses of Backpack can subscribe to alerts and notifications that can be displayed on a dashboard, delivered via email or even as a message to a mobile device—this feature allows parents to have instant access to updated information on missing assignments, grades and disciplinary incidents as soon as they are generated.
Accountability
Backpack Community allows its users to import standardized assessment test results directly from Backpack SIS to further analyze and share with the appropriate staff and make available to parents. This feature provides role-based scorecards for everyone- parents, administrators, teachers, students so that the school district can proactively remain accountable to its stakeholders.
